Additionally, with convenient trigger inputs, the HPD-20 can be easily expanded with a Roland pad and hi-hat controller to create a super-compact percussion set.

The HandSonic HPD-20 is a sophisticated hand percussion instrument with 13 velocity-sensitive pads arranged in a circular configuration. It offers a range of ergonomic features, allowing users to play sounds, dampen or mute tone, adjust pitch, and more. This allows for authentic acoustic hand percussion techniques and dynamic textures suitable for electronic dance music. The two largest pads allow for natural tonal variations. Additional sound control features include the Roll button, Realtime Modify knob, and the D-BEAM, which allows for sound manipulation with hand movements in the air.

The Roland HPD-20 HandSonic Digital Hand Percussion comes with 850 onboard sounds that are instantly accessible and ready to play. Access a vast library of global percussion instruments, including ethnic, melodic, and orchestral options, all at your command. The selection includes traditional drum kit sounds and a wide range of electronic tones suitable for contemporary music. Roland's SuperNATURAL sound engine and HandSonic pad interface provide a wide range of dynamic expression in all sounds. The HPD-20 offers 200 kits, including 100 ready-to-go setups, allowing for customizable customization for any style or playing situation.
 

Import Your Own Custom Sounds

In addition to its built-in sounds, the HPD-20 gives you the ability to import up to 500 of your own WAV sounds and play them from the pads. Transfer your favorite sounds from your computer to a USB flash drive, then import, assign, and create kits on the HPD-20. You're not limited to short percussion strikes on the HandSonic. With up to 12 minutes available, customize it with audio phrases, sound effects, backing music, and more. The HPD-20 allows users to use their sounds like onboard sounds, with complete editing and effects capabilities available. This includes the ability to continuously loop beats and other rhythmic sounds and start/stop playback with the pads.
 

Deep Editing and Dynamic Multi-Effects

The HPD-20 enables users to edit, layer, and blend sounds, adjusting them dynamically based on playing velocity, offering powerful sound creation. The HPD-20 boasts three independent multi-effects engines offering 25 different effects such as chorus, echo, distortion, filter, and bit crush. It is perfect for creating dance music and electronica. The Realtime Modify knob allows for expressive sound shaping on the fly. Ambiance effects and EQ can be applied to the entire kit for final sweetening.
 

Quick Rec and USB

The convenient Quick Rec function allows you to capture a performance or idea with just a button press. You can play along with the built-in metronome for steady timing as you record, or record without being constrained by a set tempo. Saving your recordings to a connected USB flash drive is easy—simply press the Export function button, adjust the level and other parameters as desired, and save! You can also back up your HPD-20 user kits and other settings to USB memory. The HPD-20’s USB Computer port makes it easy to connect to a Mac or Windows computer, allowing you to use the powerful HandSonic pad interface to play virtual instruments and record beats in audio/MIDI music production software.
 

Trigger Inputs and MIDI

The HPD-20 excels as a standalone percussion instrument, but you can extend its capabilities even further with external devices. Via the TRIG IN jack, you can connect a wide range of Roland pad types for stick playing, or a kick pad for banging out beats from the floor. Adding a Roland hi-hat controller to the dedicated jack expands the versatility of your setup, creating a super-compact percussion kit! MIDI I/O provides even more possibilities, allowing you to trigger HPD-20 sounds from V-Drums, SPD-series pads, keyboards, and more. You can also play sounds on other instruments using the HandSonic.
